English as a Second Language

St. Joseph Services welcomes learners of all levels to participate. Adult literacy classes are designed to meet the needs of the individual student. The most frequently cited reason for attending programming at St. Joseph Services is the feeling of community that is established within the classroom. Adults learn in a respectful, non-judgmental atmosphere with instructors who guide the curriculum to ensure the successful achievement of each student’s goals.

Classes are offered daily at the SJS Community Center in Humboldt Park by trained, dedicated tutors in either a one-on-one or a small group setting. Bilingual tutors are available for those Spanish-speaking students who have little to no English language ability.
