SJS Community Center at Humboldt Park

After School Program

Trained volunteers work alongside SJS staff to provide you one-on-one academic support, homework help, art programs, health and nutrition education, and leadership and character-building activities. Regularly scheduled science, social studies, and cultural awareness clubs allow you to gain a broader appreciation for the world around you.

Saturday Tutoring and Recreation

Saturday tutoring is by appointment only and offers you individual assistance in core subjects or math, reading, and writing. Humboldt Park’s Youth Program is available for students from 2nd to 8th grade who live in the Humboldt Park and West Town neighborhoods.

Seasonal Camps

In conjunction with seasonal school breaks in the Winter, Spring, and Summer, the SJS Community Center offers all-day camps close to home. Camps operate from 9:00 am until 5:00 pm, and provide two meals and snacks throughout the day. You will travel on field trips to many of Chicago's landmarks and museums, as well as take part in a variety of academic, sports, music, dance, art, cooking, health, cultural, and team-building activities.

Open Gym

The SJS Community Center at Austin opens San Miguel’s doors on Sundays for youth in the Austin community to play basketball.  Our gym features a full-length court, six basketball rims, and a shot clock.  Pick-up, tournament-style basketball games based on age group are operated and supervised by St. Joseph Services staff.
